Risk Safety Systems offer a comprehensive range of offshore escape chute systems.
The first of these is the RSS-ECS65 deck mounted unit.
The ECS-65 system is designed to provide a rapid means of escape to sea level in
an emergency event without the need to enter the water.
The ECS-65 is designed to be mounted into deck structures, mezzanine floors or steel
platforms only requiring an uninterrupted drop to sea level. To operate open the
hydraulic assisted lid, turn the deployment handle 90 degrees and the system deploys
to sea. The ECS-65 is supplied with a one piece Kevlar micro netted netted zig-zag
chute with heat flux protection of 650 degrees and melting point of 800 degrees is
fitted with an enclosed outer sleeve made from electro fiberglass to either air gap
our maximum ballast down level dependent on the type of facility, the outer additional
sleeve provides an additional 650 degrees of heat flux protection ensuring that
evacuees have maximum protection from radiated heat. The Kevlar micro netted chute
provides egress from each 48” cell and is fitted with a rear exit allowing evacuees
to exit the chute at variable heights.
The 25 or 30 person Zodiac self inflating boarding raft sits below the chute column
and provides variable height adjustment in cases of high and low wave action. The
system is supported by four 15400Ib Kevlar support ropes that are attached to the
inside of the main chute container and travel down the chute column and through the
boarding raft in four places and attached to the weighted stabilization plate that
sits approximately 10 foot below the water line.
The ECS-65 can be located adjacent to throw over life rafts providing greatly enhanced
ease of decent and survivability over the knotted rope and scramble net option. The
system can be partially integrated whereby the deck mounted throw over life raft
painter lines are fed into the bottom of the chute container and attached to the
self-inflating Zodiac debarkation/boarding raft and inflated at sea level , this
provides a basic integrated system providing the ability to descend the chute directly
into the boarding raft then cross board to the Zodiac/RFD or DSB (A) pack rafts.
After cross boarding is complete the main life raft painter lines are released
and the rafts float free awaiting recovery.
Weight is dependent on chute length and geographical location as the stabilization
plate will be weighted for wave, current condition based on the 100 year return met-ocean
The unit is easily installed, maintained and inexpensive compared to similar systems.
