MES IECS-66 OFFSHORE EVACUATION SYSTEM - FREE FALL

RISK SAFETY SYSTEMS - FULLY INTEGRATED MES ESCAPE CHUTE SYSTEM (IECS-66)


The IECS-66 was designed to provide a solution for evacuating from offshore facilities in the case of fire or emergency event. The IECS-66 is our mid-range evacuation system and provides a low risk rapid method of deploying to sea without the need to enter the water.   The system is a modular unit that comprises of our basic ECS-65 chute container that stores the Kevlar netted micro-holed V450 zig-zag chute offering heat protection of 650 degrees and a melting point of 800 degrees.  Each 48” cell has an apposing slide and rear exit to accommodate evacuation from any cell offering evacuation at variable heights



A 7ft x 7ft skid is supplied with access gate, hand rails and front mounted integrated life raft cradle.  The system can be deck mounted or cantilevered using the RSS cantilever frame as shown below.  Qty four x 15400Ib Kevlar ropes are used to support the stabilization plate and are attached inside the main ECS65 chute container using heavy duty shackles.  The Kevlar ropes run alongside the escape chute system and down through the center of the debarkation raft and attached to the stabilization plate that sits 10ft. below the surface.


The main Kevlar support cables are attached to the chute in the middle, and at the last ring on the escape chute.  The cables run freely through the carabineers, this keeps the chute column inside the Kevlar support ropes but the chute at no time is holding any weight from the stabilization plate. Suitable for variable height applications, unused cells of the Kevlar netted chute remain coiled in the base of the debarkation raft when the vessel or platform is in a ballast down condition or under wave varying conditions.


The IECS-66  is a fully integrated system whereby one turn of the deployment control arm deploys the system to sea at the same time releases the front mounted life raft cradle that throws the main rafts to sea.  The main rafts are attached to the boarding raft by there painter line.  The first evacuees descent the chute pull in the two main life rafts inflate and tie them off to the boarding raft, evacuation can now commence.  The IECS-66 evacuation system is mechanical free fall and  reduces the risk of failure to the lowest possible levels.  


Operational drop height in all cases is determined by the life raft  drop height certification as specified by the manufacture Survitec/Zodiac.




IECS – With Purpose Built 14ft x 7ft-8” Cantilever Frame.


If deck space is at a minimum and a 7ft x 7ft cut out is not available that provides an uninterrupted drop to sea level.  Risk Safety Systems can provide a purpose built heavy duty cantilever frame.  The RSS Cantilever frame is built in line with customer requirements with all structural calculations provided to support the design.


The cantilever frame is designed to allow the 7ft x 7ft skid to drop and bolt in and can be easily removed for service or inspection.  In all cases RSS design the frame based on customers fitting location and in most cases structural information is required to ensure the location is suitable.


RSS recently built and supplied eight IECS-66 systems for Exxon Mobil Kiz A/B FPSO’s in Angola.  Each system was supplied with a cantilever frame which is shown in the photos to the left.   


Risk Safety Systems IECS-66 MES escape chute systems are designed to be low maintenance when compared to Life Boats and similar systems available on the market.  The IECS-66 should be inspected by the customer on a monthly basis with RSS providing the annual inspections which would include testing and re-certifying all life rafts.  


On the fifth year RSS carry out a major inspection, this would include removing and inspecting the all system components.
